The Company came into being as a Public Company limited by Shares in 1935 and later became a Govt Company in 1987 u/s 617 of the Companies Act 1956 by transfer of entire Shareholdings to Bharat Bhari Udyog Nigam Ltd (A Government of India Undertaking) of which this Company is a subsidiary. The Company is primarily engaged in Fabrication & Erection of Steel Bridges, Concrete Bridges, Marine Structures, and other allied Civil Works relating to Power Plant, Steel Plant and Infrastructure Projects.

The remuneration systems is as per the guideline issued by DPE, Government of India from time-to-time as adopted by the Board of Directors. It is implemented through administrative circulars and settlements with union duly approved by the Board of Directors and Government of India.
